DIY Down TQ with Karo Step and Box Style Footbox

I just finished a new Down TQ to go with my 0° HG Incubator. This was my first quilt and I wanted to try something a little different. I was inspired by kduvey to do a Karo Step style. I figured it would be a good starter so I didn't have to worry about measuring the down. My down was in bulk. The measurements of the quilt are 54" X 74" and it has a 1/3 taper. I decided on a 8" karo size with a 4 1/2" long baffle. Because I wanted a match to my 0° UQ I used a 3 1/4" space for the baffle. (Baffle is 3 3/4" for seam allowance.)
I also wanted to try something different in the footbox area. All of the designs I had seen before just sewed in the footbox to the quilt. This allows for a "sewn through" type seam with no insulation. I thought about a draft collar to cover the seam but during the process I thought of making the foot box an actual box with the seam in the middle of the short sides. This would allow the seam to be covered on the inside and form against the quilt.
Here are some pictures of my progress:
    Layout the outside,

Cut the inside to match the outside,

    Layout the inside,

    Sew baffles to the inside,

    Sew baffles to the outside,

Rolled hem on the edges leaving about 18" on one side open for stuffing,

Add Channel at top for shock cord,

Make footbox and stuff (note the boxed corners with the seam for the inside and outside in the middle),

Suffed and finished quilt. I used the bathtub method to stuff,

Weighs in at 28.85oz with the stuff sack,

It was fun project but sewing all the baffles took some time. Oh well practice for the next project.

Thanks to the forum for all the ideas and inspiration.

    Brilliant work, looks great.

Is the footbox a 'square box section pillow' sewn on the bottom?

Thanks. Yes, the footbox is a trapezoid shape with a thickness similar to the rest of the quilt. The boxed corner has a height of about 2 1/2" in the corner. The seam for the inside and outside is right in the middle. When the footbox is sewn to the quilt it has some of this thickness inside and some outside. The amount inside should act as a draft collar to avoid a sewn through type of seam. I guess all of the thickness could have been on the inside but I was thinking having some on the outside would avoid my feet fully compressing the down right at the seam.

Love the colors and workmanship! And I gotta tell ya - your small boxes should prevent down shift better than most Karo quilts that I've seen.

Great job. Oh one question ... I probably missed something but is the footbox just one big chamber, or is there something to prevent down shift?
