Great job. Oh one question ... I probably missed something but is the footbox just one big chamber, or is there something to prevent down shift?
Thanks! You did spot my one frustration. I did not add any baffles in the footbox. I was thinking that it was small enough that I would not need baffles and assumed over stuffing it would be good enough. If I do it again I will add a + baffle design in the center or at least a horizontal baffle to break up the larger footbox and keep the down in place.
I think the added baffles would be more insurance as the current seems to have enough down to keep it in place. Otherwise I am very happy with the finished product and can't wait to test it out.

That is a great looking quilt. Unique footbox design as well. I love that Illume macaw green. It goes well with the gray membrane. Very very well done!!

Thanks, I really like the Olive Yellow too. I just finished my tarp with the 2nd Gen Silpoly. I'm waiting to get some better pictures to post though.

The seam for the inside and outside is right in the middle. When the footbox is sewn to the quilt it has some of this thickness inside and some outside. The amount inside should act as a draft collar to avoid a sewn through type of seam. I guess all of the thickness could have been on the inside but I was thinking having some on the outside would avoid my feet fully compressing the down right at the seam.
Thanks for that. Its a really well thought out plan for a foot box.

Thanks, and thank you for making it look so easy in your video. It really inspired me to go ahead and try it. The Karo is a little more work and with the smaller size I did it was not any harder just more time behind the thread injector.

How did it perform in colder weather? Did the down in the footbox stay in place? Very nice work, thank you for posting.

Update- sorry I was looking at this old thread an must have missed the last post and question. I had multiple trips during the winter months. The quilt was tested during these trips from 20°F down to 8°F with wind and snow. The windchill would have been below zero easy. I felt toasty warm with just a simple thin 32°HEAT base layer. I have also had this quilt to 55°F during the night and was not overly hot in a shorts and t-shirt. Down is very forgiving and amazingly self regulating by adjusting to your body's need.
I am very satisfied with the results. I even made a second quilt for the summer months using basically the same pattern. My summer quilt does not have the sewn in foot box. I went with a draw string and snaps to create the box.
