    Which snake skins to get

    Hello to everyone !
I want to get snake skins for my tarps. What kind are you guys/girls using and why ? I have 12' JRB and the Clark Vertex tarp; both pretty big.
    Thanks, Joe

I use the XL size from HH on my 12x10 with 1 set of doors and 12x14 with 1 set of doors.
I have never tried any of the others so I can't comment.

I have a set of mesh tarp skins from Wilderness Logics for my WL Tadpole. They are great. Well made and very handy. They have a little storage pocket on the end of each that the tarp ridgeline can be stored in to limit tangles. I'm very happy with them.

From what I can tell Mountain Goat's mesh tarp skins are very similar and of equal quality. I would just have easily ordered those, but was already getting my tarp from WL.

I previously used the Hennessy snake-skins on my old tarp. I personally like the mesh skins much much better if using them with a tarp. As has been mentioned elsewhere by other members, the mesh skins don't really help a wet tarp dry out too much better than silnylon snake skins when packed; however, the silnylon hennessy snake skins themselves took too long to dry after getting back home from a trip, at least for me. And I'd have to turn them inside out so they'd dry better and not smell. May just be me, but they weren't easy to dry and I don't like removing the skins from tarp to dry them and then have to put them back on.
The mesh tarp skins dry very easy and at least allow your wet tarp to breathe a little while packed. But I'd say not a huge difference in practical use.

If buying new, I think they only carry the XL size now.

Check out http://www.outdoortrailgear.com/cott...s-goods-store/ I recently picked up a set of mesh skins from there, shipped fast and are really nice. They came with small pockets on the ends to stuff lines in, as well as draw strings to keep the skins in place when on. I ordered 11' ones and they might actually even fit a 12' tarp.

I have a pair of mountain goat ones for my SF. Not sure what you need to know, but, they work fine . Theres no end pockets for your ridgeline-its literally just a mesh tube, tapered, with a drawstring closure at the large end.

MountainGoat will make skins with or without pockets and sew them to match your tarp length. Just let her know your preferences. Great vendor.

    Sorry to possibly intrude:

I use HH snake skins on hammocks and tarps, but have seen the phrase "tarp skins".

Searching on HF did not disclose more than a single recent post with the phrase.

Are there such and who makes them, please? Tx.

"Tarp sleeves" is a probably a more common generic term(?) I think people often use "Snake Skins" much like one might say "Kleenex" or "Scotch Tape." Some are cloth, others are mesh. I like mesh for the reasons stated above.
