    Super shelter mod

Hi guys, I was playing around with my hammock in the backyard today and came up with an diy project.

I like the idea of the undercover and the insulation pad of the super shelter but that foam pad that comes with it is a pain. I find it too bulky to pack and I already put holes in it.

I want to copy the pattern of the undercover, using the fabric I have here to replace the foam pad. The final product would be removable and will attached to the 4 corners of the undercover so I can use just the undercover if I want.

I'm thinking of using radiantex and the light ripstop I already have here. So it would be undercover, ripstop bottom and radiantex on top.

    Questions:
    Has it been done before?
Is the ripstop bottom and insulation on top will work or it should be arrange differently?
Is there any pattern of the undercover from hennessy floating around?

    Thanks!

Hello Zero. Heres another post about it that Gordzilla made - https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...7149-Radiantex

Insul bright looks to be the same. Do a search on it and several posts will come up.

    Heres one someone made https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...-Bright-Fabric

    Thanks for the links.

Do I need a layer of some sort of fabric over the insulation or not?

I don't know about the radiantex, but insulbright is just fuzzy poly on mylar, so if its like that then yes. Also, it picks up a whole bunch of sticks and leaves if you don't.

Yes, its best to cover it with fabric.

I sewed a piece of ripstop over the outside of the foam HH SS under cover pad (the gray one) and it has been quite durable for some years. It does not need to be perfectly fitted, it will work fine. Instead of trying to use the storage bag that came with it, I made a bishops bag, which is sized more realistically so it is much easier to put the pad into out in the woods, as opposed to at home. Though I have a down UQ also, most of the time I use it above 30 degrees, although one time in the teens it was great too.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

I like your idea, I haven't started yet, life got busy but I keep tinkering with the ideas everyday. Soon I'll sit behind the sewing table and get going lol

Project completed, yes, pictures to follow.

It turned out pretty good and I'm very happy with. I still need to use it over night which should happen this weekend.

It is just a bit bigger and wider than the original foam pad and I used what I cutted off and doubled up the centre of the pad. Now I am debating if I should run a couple of stitch line across the full length of the pad to keep it from puffing up when I pack it or if that extra but of air trapped between the layers will help with insulation.

Not easy to take good picture of it.

It look pretty loose and saggy but it is actually pretty tight but when laid flat on the floor it looks weird because of the pinched ends to make it follow the contour of the hammock.
