    Dyneema fishing line for guyline?

Has anyone used the 100lb test dyneema fishing line for guyline? I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything... maybe my search criteria is wrong. It seems like a natural choice to me - $10 for 500m of the stuff, and it works out to .06g/foot, basically zero stretch, quite durable and of course not bothered by water. Here's what I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...rch_detailpage any reason that wouldn't be a good choice for guyline?

There have been many talks about this sort of line in the past....very few folks though actually use it. Pulling on it with your hands can be uncomfortable to say the least. Much thinner than about 1/16th inch diameter line is getting down to where it bothers my hands to pull on. And in our soil around here using the guy line to pull the stakes back out of the ground is often the only way to get them out.

One word KNOTS. Well and what pgibson said too. That stuff would most likely cut you if pull on it, I personally know 30lb braid cuts fingers really well.

Good point about pulling on it. I'll have to tie up a midshipman's hitch on some and see how tight I can get it, and how hard it is to untie after loading. A trucker's hitch may also be helpful, since the mechanical advantage means one would only have to pull half as hard.

I carry a hank of it for emergency use and repairs. Not as my primary lines.

I have used the planner board line in the past. It works just fine and it can be spliced like amsteel (I used the same needle for both). Picked up my spool at Bass Pro. The only problem is lack of color options.

You might want to experiment with Hollow Braid Dacron fishing line. Putting end splices in each end and using 1/4-inch Carbon Hunting arrows as toggles.

I've used it but I still prefer Zing-It. As has been mentioned, it tends to cut into the hands a bit (especially when trying to pull stakes up by the line) but more than anything I always fear I'll walk into it in the dark and cut my legs, lol. It definitely has more than enough strength to get the job done and weighs next to nothing, but then again, so does Zing-It and for the weight savings the Zing-It is slightly easier to work with for me. I have it on my backup/loaner tarp and use it without hardware. I use tarpworms with Zing-It but when I use the dyneema fishing line I use Brandon's method (see video below at about the 4:15 mark) for tying off my guylines as I don't want to deal with the knots in that tiny line. It seems to hold pretty well this way.

It's usable and cheaper than Zing-It or other options just not my preferred guyline. For me personally, it's not worth it for the weight savings, but if you are doing it for the money savings it may be worth a shot.
