Isn't that a self inflating pad? I was under the impression that it REQUIRED a air pad with lengthwise tubes. I have the REI Stratus that is in Shugs video and the Exped Downmat 9. Haven't used the Exped yet, but with the REI I was in 35 degrees which felt slightly cool. The REI is a 2.9R vs. 8R on the Exped, so I'm sure I could go much colder. Problem I have is it is too hot if it is warmer than say 50 degrees or so for me.

It is self inflating and also one of the recommended (and cheapest) options on Amok's website.

I spent the afternoon in my new Amok. I have a Therm-A-Rest Basecamp AF, which is one of the pads recommended on Amok's site. I had issues with the pad bunching up, especially when I tried sleeping on my stomach. I will have to spend time "fiddling" with the strap adjustments and air pressure in my pad to get things right.

I REALLY like this hammock and Tarp system so I hope it works out. As of now, I kinda feel like a NASCAR driver trying to get my car dialed in. "She's runnin' a bit loose in the corners!!!"

Exped Synmat 9 LW or Big Agnes? Hmm... which way to go?

I have a Big Agnes pad.....not completely happy with it after several attempts. So I'm going to try the Exped Synmat 9 LW next. Ordering it next week.

Hmmm...hadn't heard of the 3D. Enhancement of the Synmat 7 model. And rated at an R-value of 4.9...... just right for those Little Rhody temperatures! (coming from a former Rhode Islander!)

I've used it in the 20s in my amok and was cozy.

Fully inflated its tough to get in, but it does fit. Barely.

With my Big Agnes sometimes I partially inflate it, other times it's deflated & I reach up through the hole at the foot end to pull it down.
