    Multi-color/Fabric Hammock - Concerns? Issues?

Of course, the bug has bitten. Plans, plans, plans, and more plans are being made.

My sister heard that I am making our Dad a hammock for his birthday, and now she wants to know when her and her hubby are getting their own personal hammocks. I'm thinking Christmas.

Currently they have Eno hammocks, and when they bought them I asked why they chose those over any other possible brand that they could have went with. One of her answers was that they have multiple colors.

My question is this: Are there any concerns or issues with using multiple fabrics to make a hammock?

I would be doing a single layer hammock, and envision joining the fabrics together using a seam like this:
    hybrid seam.PNG

Will this seam be strong enough? Is there a different seam I should be using?

I would imagine that the dead center of the hammock is where the most weight would typically be, so I would want to avoid having a seam in that area.

If someone else has any tips/tricks/suggestions, I am all ears!

    Thanks!

You've found one of the few positives about ENO. However, those seams can also be considered a negative since you have the seams rubbing against you, and they're an additional point of failure.

I'd make the hammocks out of a single piece of fabric, and tell the sister and hubby to take a hike.

Also sewing fabric together like that changes the stretch. The seam will not give at the same amount as the body of the fabric and the added panels. You will end up with a firm line where you sew and different give elsewhere.

This is exactly what I don't like about the ENO or my Himal... the seams.
I'm sure you can pull off an ENO look-a-like if that's what you want to do.

You could use lighter material and make them a double layer with either different colors (inside/outside) or different colors and different fabric.

Make double layer hammocks with different inner and outer colors. It'll be more expensive though, which may be an issue if you're making a lot of them.
