    Carolina beach NC trip

Just got back from a weeks vacation at Carolina beach nc with the family. We had a great time. I got to slip off in the mornings a few days to explore Carolina beach state park and get some hiking in. First morning I got to hike most of the trails. They only have 6 miles total. Got to watch them do a controlled burn on one area of the park. Went back later in the week to walk trails again and check out what all was burned. I went for a 4 mile hike at fort fisher one morning also. A great trip in a short amount of time. If your down that way it's worth checking out.

Thanks for visiting our state park. Most people don't know the park boundary actually extends almost a mile south of the marked trail system. Give a yell next time you're in town and we'll check em out.

Thanks for the great photos! Our family initiated a project to visit every SP in NC of which we've hit 11 so far. CBSP is on the list for a camping trip when the weather is a little cooler.

Neat stuff. IIRC Carolina Beach SP is one of the only places around where Venus Flytraps grow naturally. Got down to Fort Fisher as well a summer or two ago--loved the miles of beaches just south of there. Glad you got out there.

Wife and I camped there for several years in the Fall, nice campground. Alas we had to find another place to camp. They close the gate earlier in the fall and you can't get in or out. We like to pier fish at night and this required us to leave our vehicle outside the park and walk in or stay out until morning. I can't understand why they don't have a system where campers get a code to get in and out like a lot of other parks. If you decide to eat out you have to hurry back or get locked out.
    There's no excuse for laziness...

but, if you find one, let me know.

Mic, I agree. A coded gate would be ideal and maybe could be included in some of the planned improvements to the system if the ConnectNC bond passes. It has always seemed like a safety issue to me, as much as a convenience issue, to have people rely on park staff to get out of a park in the event of a medical emergency when seconds might count.
