Really looking forward to this, be nice to get out and have the chance to discuss some more hangs this year. Thinking on getting back out to green swamp west again. I'm planning to take some of the guys in my men's group from church out for a weekend sometime this season.

Hey, FlLhanger. Sandy just found this thread. I only do very short hikes but am drooling.

My One-Season Jarbridge (3/4 UQ) from AHE (Arrowhead) is perfect for warm weather hanging-especially since I'm 5'.

Sandy, Just to let you know, no matter which trail you use, a sherpa would be very difficult to get into Hidden Pond unless you find a couple of young studs to help you!! The shortest trail is about 2-2.5 miles, I've only hiked out on that trail once so check with others more experienced on Hidden Pond Short. However, as I remember it, there is quite a bit of sugar sand on that one. Pat's Landing has a bit more inclines then the other two and I recall lots of roots to contend with. From Juniper Springs its 5-5.5 miles and besides a lot of sugar sand, it is offers little shade for a large section and the last mile to 1.5 miles has inclines and an unbridged stream to cross. The stream bank is quite steep and overgrown.

wish I could go. just got a new JOB and have to make it look good for the new boss. maybe I'll be able to join in all the festivities on next year's Florida Frozen Butt Hang. does anybody do a Thanksgiving or Christmas hang in the Panhandle. that time period, not those day in particular, although I wouldn't be put off on going on those days either.

Well Rob, keep an eye on this subforum, the 6th Annual Florida Hang is going to be on MLK Jr weekend in January. Although not in the panhandle, it's being held at Doe Lake Campground, in the Ocala National Forest. Not too far from Panama City! Its the largest gathering of camping/hiking hammock enthusiasts in the world!

Hi Sandy. Glad you could chime in.

It's a nice hike in from the West on Hidden Pond Short and a little over 2 miles. Like O-Boy said, I wouldn't try it with a Sherpa though due to the overgrowth of the trail and sand when it warms up.

Other than that, it's a wonderful spot to hang and the pond is great to dip in. We're going to discuss more hangs around the fire and I will throw in for you a few short trip hangs(Sherpa style) to see what sticks.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    Sandy,
The hike in on Hidden Pond Short is like the hike in to Creekside along the creek (not the wide jeep trail you usually take) . There are at least two tricky spots that aren't marked as the trail crosses dry lakes and the entry/exit is masked by undergrowth. I'd recommend working on the "native bearers" approach.

    3+3.
3 weeks and 3 days to go until Summer's Last Gasp Hang in Ocala National Forest. The past yielded 10ish or so hangers that were brave enough to hit the Florida Trail in September. It's officially Autumn, but it's Florida and still warmer than most Northern states.

Even with this we have over 30 hangers wanting to get an early start to the hiking season. Whooooo Buddy. Can't wait for the 3 weeks to pass.

    Attendees list.
Please indicate where and when you will arrive. Not a necessity, but it makes it easier for others to plan for meeting up and coming in with a hiking partner.
