    Question Uber Long Separating Zippers?

I have searched high and low and so far the only separating zipper that I have found that would be long enough to allow for a bug net to be completely removed from a hammock is a #5 Coil Mattress Cover Zipper that is 315 inches long.

That is long enough to work, but it only comes in the color white. I would really prefer a black zipper.

Where is everyone getting their separating zippers from?

    Thanks,

    Are these separating zippers?

EDIT: Those are coil zippers, and there isn't a way to attach the hardware needed to make them separating. I would have to do some magic juju teeth cutting trickery to make it act like one.

I did however see that she has #3 coil separating zippers, but alas, they are in ivory

Sorry I missed the non-separating part part. Here is one but it is a #10 and not cheap. http://www.zippershipper.com/10-mold...arating-zipper

Another option is to use one zipper for each side. http://www.questoutfitters.com/zippers.htm#TWO WAY SEPARATING ZIPPERS the #8 110" version may be enough to get you down one side. Using the triangles on each end as a place to break them.

Maybe with this approach you could fine the smaller #3 that would work.

Darn it Kyle... You just shipped my order off today too.

Well, I guess since I'll be ordering it for my own hammock and not for this hammock I'm about to make, I can wait.

Now if you only had some dynaglide or zing-it/lash-it, you would truly be a one stop shop!

Yeah, that's what I am hoping too. #3 zippers are nice, but if you have ever flipped a hammock #5 have incredible holding strength! I'm just glad no one was around to see me pinned down to the bug net like that

A #3 coil zipper will be fine for a bug net and most other hammock projects. IMO using #5 zippers is overkill for most projects. You can save weight and bulk by using a #3. Remember a zipper is not load bearing nor should it be IMO.
As you have discovered finding a long separating zippers can be difficult. There are pros and cons with everything including zippers. If you use a fixed length zipper you have to be very accurate with your measuring and sewing. A lot of us uses zippers by the yard. You can add as many sliders to them as you want (you can’t on separating zippers as far as I know) but the disadvantages is its more difficult to join the two sides but far from impossible. Ask yourself how often do you separate the zipper vs. the advantage with several sliders? There are several other threads in the forum about zippers including videos if you need more info on the subject.

I am not saying one is better than the other but it depends on what it’s for and what you expect.
