looking to buy first hammock, any suggestions???

looking to get into hammocks. or at least learn more though experience

im looking at the grand trunk double and really looking at the kammok roo. i dont want to buy a warbonnet bb right off the bat only to not like hammok camping.

would like buy my first set up by friday, if not before. at the moment just the hammock and suspension.

was looking to make and use a fixed structural ridgeline until i get the hang of things.

care to steer a person in the right direction?

    about me
i tend to fall asleep on my side then my wife says im all over the place at night.
im about 6.1 and 250 give or take.
i dont care about how much things weigh because i almost exclusively drive to the camp site. that big cooler i bring with me would be rough to hike.

    thanks everyone

I would look at a Hennessy Hammock deluxe explorer or the safari as for the price it comes with the hex tarp (need to specify), and netting. I would recommend the side zipper.

I am you same size and weight and started the same and it was a great hammock to learn with.

I would suggest reading some more. Kammok Roo is for absolute noobs, and GT Double is slightly better. You have a lot of things to address: tarp, insulation, suspension, etc. Focus on the important stuff first, then worry about the nuance.

Personally, I'd suggest you look at a Dutch hammock, with Zing-It ridgeline and Dutch biner. Then get yourself a Fronkey bugnet, a decent tarp (anything from a Kelty Noah 12 x 12 to a Warbonnet Superfly), and an underquilt (Jarbidge synthetic good down to 25* F).

    Silvrsurfr pretty much nailed it.
I'll second a hammock from Dutch. Customer service is excellent, shipping is very fast, and it's a great low budget hammock to start with.

Tarps can be found in many places and aren't specific to the hammock.
Don't rush it if you can and read around the forums. I've seen many people turned off of hammocks due to jumping into the more commercial off the shelf hammocks. Greater i started with one and some do like theirs, but I firmly believe there is much better out there.

Welcome to the forums, from Florida.

Go slow and don't rush into it. If you do, you may not like the hang and it may turn you off. As said, keep reading and watch Shug, Fronkey, and many group hang videos on Youtube.

Try a simple gathered end hammock that's longer than the mass produced hammocks to see if you're a good fit before you buy more expensive hammocks. 10', 10.5', 11' hammocks do better for most than the shorter hammocks. And the 11' hammocks are really catching on for a better and larger sweet spot for taller hangers(and shorter alike).

Dutch has some nice material for these less expensive hammocks, after you find you like them, go to the cottage vendors and give them some love. All the hammock makers here make great hammocks.

Test you hammock in a controlled environment like home. After you know it's for you then upgrade your equipment. We all have our favorite vendors for hammocks, quilts, tarps, suspension, etc. so contact the vendors themselves and ask questions. They will make you wonderful gear.

    Good luck and hang well.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

ok kammok is out. thank you!!! as far as tarp and bug net thats down the road. ive read that longer is better. so if i get the 11foot dutch hammock is that going to limit my options down the road?

The dutch Hammocks are great you can use any underquilt with them I have a 11' made with argon. I also have a warbonnet Blackbird xlc, and a therma rest Slacker double hammock. The slacker is my favorite the fabric is real firm and I love it for side sleeping. I just can't get comfortable on my side in a stretchier hammock.
