What Do You Call This and Where Do I Get It

I saw online somewhere a teardrop shaped piece of metal to spread your suspension out a bit where it loops around something to keep it from turning too tight of a bend and losing strength, but I can't remember where I saw it. Does anyone know what these are called?

What Do You Call This and Where Do I Get It

Are you thinking of a rope thimble?

I think thimble is correct. Home Depot has them in the fastener section. Not sure on lowes. I just looked at them Saturday while at HD.

I've often thought that a lightweight thimble would be a good idea for hammock suspensions, especially with Dynaglide, but the steel ones from hardware stores are heavy, and it's hard to find ones that are narrow enough.

I have purchased small lightweight ones at West Marine for building shark fishing rigs.

That's it exactly. I just want it to protect my Amsteel suspension when it's on my stand in the backyard (no trees). It connects to an s-hook on either side, so it's a pretty tight bend. I wouldn't use them backpacking.

While a thimble won't hurt anything, if your s-hook is at least two times the diameter of the amsteel, it will retain full strength.
