    Question Storable hammock stand suggestions

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but does any one have any suggestions for a standalone stand for the backyard? Preferably one that could atleast partially fold for winter storage in a garage and is somewhat mobile. Not opposed to a light weight diy project, but ready made would be nice. Thoughts? I have a 10' but getting an 11'.

Give a man enough ripstop and he'll hang himself.

The stand without the hammock is £99.00 and you can carry it with you backpacking or with your car. Good for 10.5 foot length hammocks, but i've seen videos where you can go longer

I've built several hammock stands but none were very portable. I came across one I'm very happy with here on HF. Sorry I don't have the time to track down links but with a small amount of effort you can find everything you need to purchase & build the following; "Modified Turtle Dog" using US military 3" aluminum radio tower poles. There is a lrg discussion on this specific build. Someone else might chime in with the link. 16 poles with carry bag cost me $100. shipped which will accomodate just about the longest hammocks. Comes in @ about 35#'s, 4ft long & a little over a foot in diameter when packed. Not quite light or small enough for backpacking but works well for car/boat camping.

I hang both a BMBH & WB traveller with mine. Add 6 more poles for each xtra hammock you want & you have a great way to hang solo or with friends & fam' when little or no hang points are available. I went with the lashing since I come across uneven terrain often. Bottom line, for the money this is by far the best treeless hang option I've found. The only draw back I've found is that it does have a relatively lrg footprint compared to other options.

Do you want a stand for the backyard or would you prefer some solid posts and sleeves? I'm kicking around sinking a pair of 6x6 posts in the ground for a new hanging spot. I'll sink some 5' deep holes here in FL and concrete a sleeve of PVC pipe in the ground. When I'm finished, I'll place a 12" square paver over the top of the sleeve to keep someone from stepping in the hole over the unused months (mid summer here in FL). The poles get stashed in the shed/garage when not in use.

I recently made a lightweight, indoor Turtlelady hammock stand that could be used outdoors without a tarp (or something else holding up the tarp). There's pictures, shopping list, and instructions in this thread:

Another option for pre-fab if you're looking to just buy something:

check out the TurtleDog stand, a pretty simple inexpensive DIY project. a couple hinges, some 2x2 boards (or 2x4s cut in half, or 2x3) and a chainlink fence top rail section. there is mighty long thread on it here: The-TurtleDog-stand

I made a pipe stand (using Derek's plans) and envisioned using it in the backyard for summer hangs. But it never made it outdoors - it's now in my bedroom, where it gets used nightly. It has a smaller footprint than the Turtlelady or TurtleDog stands. Love it, but it's heavy and difficult to move by myself (see dented furniture).

For summer hanging, I assembled a Turtlelady stand. Cheaper and significantly lighter. (I do not consider myself 'handy' or 'crafty' and I was able to construct both of these stands.)

There are a lot of options for backyard hanging - good luck! Let us know what you decide to do.
