    DIY Bridge Maiden Hang

My son, Scott, has been wanting a bridge hammock for a while now. We finally got some supplies: Dutch hardware for the corners; Quest Outfitters for spreader bars; I had some 1.6 ACU camo in the closet. I watched BIC's videos and also watched Grizz's videos again before starting in. I got more practice with a seam ripper than I would have liked, and also had a couple of thread injector issues, but after a bit we ended up with a hammock. I added some pockets on the end caps for glasses, headlamps, books, etc. Bug net will probably be done later.
Today we got it out and put it between the willow oaks that are our official hammock testing station. It lays well. I'm not a prophet but I foresee many nice naps and good nights in the woods for this one. I cut out two while I was at it, so there is a twin awaiting in the near future.
Judging by Scott's reaction, it looks like a success.
Would not have done this without the information and inspiration of folks on HF.

Great work! Looks like you made a dandy. Any tweaks of your own along the way?

Nice work. You might try it with the suspension a little tighter as bridge hammocks benefit from a flatter hang than gathered end hammocks.

Very nice! (once you go bridge, you never go back!!!) Bridge hammocks are sooooo nice to lay in!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

The pockets on the end caps were added in; I just stitched some up leaving enough on one edge to include it in the rolled hem. They're not too big--about 6"x15".
Instead of "tweaks" I made plenty of mistakes. They may not be obvious in the pics, but, believe me, they are there. I need to get back in the DIY mindset and get more practice.

Thanks for that, gmcttr. Yes, I went back out this afternoon and lowered the tree straps and it did feel better to me. I don't think there was much that could have made it any better for Scott. Mission accomplished.
