ThE Red Castle - High Uinta Wilderness

I converted two of my fellows to the hanging life. I provided some spare gear and helped them slash their pack weights and we headed out on a long distance backpacking trip to the Red Castle lakes in the high Uintas.
We ditched the trail and for most of the trip were practicing navigating and route finding. We trekked around 30 miles and barely made it back alive. I can't even conceive what it would have been like with the weight of some heavy tents! Whewwww. I'm calling it the most beautiful place in northern Utah. See for yourself.

My very first backpacking trip with a hammock was Red Castle 3 years ago! That's a fun hike/trip and it is definitely beautiful up there with some great fishing. I love the Tiger Trout photos. Thanks for sharing, it brought back some good memories.

Very Nice. Tigers and Cutts make for some fun fishing. Idaho has started stocking Tigers in a few waters....as packed out with stunted Brookies as many of our lakes are I hope they add them to a few other waters for population management. Great looking scenery.

Truly amazing pictures! What elevations did you cover? It looks like you spent time above the tree line.

The hike there took us above tree line but we dropped down substantially to camp. The hike started somewhere around 9,500 and climbed up to 11,300 and then back down to 10,000 ish.
