This sounds pretty cool. Would love to paddle out and hang some. Not sure if I can convince the wife or if she'll be working that weekend.

I work in IT so my schedule is hectic and unpredictable sometimes. Hopefully, if it's a quite Friday I'll be able to cut out and make it early Friday evening. Last few times I've been camping fire cooked tacos have been a huge hit. ground beef, taco seasoning, and maybe some peppers and onions in some AL foil. place it right on coals and turn. bring along some shredded cheese, cilantro, and tortillas and it's a super easy dinner. Who thinks this sounds good? If it does, once we get a count of people maybe we can coordinate some meals?

In the past where have you all parked at and left vehicles if paddling out to the island?

Anderson recreation area. Costs $5 or so to leave your vehicle, but it's gated at night so it's safer than parking at a boat put in. I had the same concern when I first went to bear island. You can put in at the beach area, but you have to carry you stuff from the parking lot to the beach. The island is literally just about a 1,600 feet away from the beach. Or you can put in at the boat ramp, which is what I do. You don't have to carry your stuff, but you have to paddle around the corner and go northeast toward the island. It's a quick paddle though, maybe 15 minutes. I like to tie my kayak to the boat dock, load it straight from the truck.

The best site is right between the two islands. Bear island is the larger and northern most one, camp site is on the south tip. I've mapped it out for you below. Google maps isn't showing the real pictures for some reason, but this is good enough:

The beach paddle is 1,600 ft. The paddle from the boat put in is 3,830 ft.

Thanks for the info Mr Jaw. I didn't know about the beach parking or boat ramp on that side of the peninsula. Glad to know there is some gated parking. I've always used the small Anderson public use area parking on the North side of the peninsula. But didn't really care to leave my car there.
