    Sewing Machines

New to DIY projects and as I can tell I will need a sewing machine. And recommendations from seasoned DIY'ers? Need it cheap.

    Define cheap. What's your budget?

Are you willing to learn to do service on a used machine?

Check Craigslist and look at the videos/posts by ramblinrev, he had helped a lot of folks finding machines for DIY. Your looking for an older, all metal machine in good condition. Straight stitch is all you need. Can be had for cheap on Craigslist. I bought one for $10 that just needed a little TLC and a new tension spring that cost like $5. Also check with relatives. You never know who has an old machine in a closet just sitting there.

If you before you buy a second hand machine remember to check all the parts are there (pedal, presser foot, bobbins and bobbin housing). It can be relative expensive to replace and maybe you would be better off buying another machine.
Don’t be afraid of older machines. Actually many prefer machines made in the sixties. They are often better and stronger than newer plastic models.
If there is nothing left to learn it’s time to die.
