Thumbs up VIDEO: Cheakamus Lake overnight with my son

    Hi everyone,

This is our first trip report here, hope you enjoy.

My son and I took another trip this weekend. Headed to Cheakamus lake.

This was a nice short hike, very easy compared to Garibaldi Lake that we did last time.

We met a lot of nice people, some not so great people, and one awesome young lady from North Carolina who my son just loves.

She came out by herself to hike to Garibaldi Lake, did Panorama and then to Helm Creek. Ended up at Cheakamus lake the same time as us so we spent the day with her as she was camped just behind us.

Hiked out with her, we all went to Subway for a sub, drove her back to Vancouver and around Stanley Park, a bit of sightseeing and a Bubble Tea before we dropped her off at her Hostel. Left her with my Business card and phone number just in case she had an emergency.

She had an old external frame backpack of her dads.

Overall we had a great trip. The bad part is that the trail is so short and the camping spot we had was so close to the lake that we had zero privacy. People left food behind that we had to pack out and clean up. It was not good.

Awesome vid! Love the big mountains in the distance past the lake and the big trees all around. Got an idea of what the water temps were? Glad your son was daring enough to jump in.

And you have a BACHELOR PARTY come through? Not sure I'd be up for that kind crowd, but glad you and your son were able to make the best out of it.

Yep, the temp of the water was COLD. That's all I know. Put my feet in to the knee and oh wow, legs turned red in 5 minutes.

Did I say Bachelor party? It was a bachelorette party... lol They were nice. I took some pictures for them.

+1 on those great views of the mountains and lake. Good on you for getting that young man out in the woods.
Loved the look of that trail with the big trees. Thanks.

I loved the video - Looks like you two made some great memories!
Very cool meeting the girl from NC. Those friendships seem to form a stronger bond when you're out on the trail. So has she had any "emergencies" yet?!?

That's great, what seems small will be long remembered by your son.

Great video. I enjoyed it. Camping at lakes that are a short hike from the parking area are always busy. It's difficult to find a short hike for kids and be able to get away from the people. Sometimes you can find nice areas to camp off the trail that are not often visited by others. I have a place near here where I test my gear that is only a few hundred feet off the road, but I never have seen anyone there.

    Thank you for sharing.

Very nice! Too bad about the rude people. That scenery was awesome!
