    Silnylon patch not holding

I patched a 3/4" cut in a 1.1 silnylon superfly tarp with Kenyon Seam Sealer 3, and it didn't hold. I assume that I used the wrong thing, but can it still be patched with seam sealer on it, and are my patches still good? I cut some nice circles. What should I use to patch it?

You need to use silicone seam sealers for silnylon - SilNet or Ultra Seam-SIL are 2 brands - You can also use 100% silicone caulk thinned with mineral spirits or Coleman fuel (white gas).

Thanks, I ordered Silnet from amazon. Now I will have an even stiffer/thicker patch.

You can use GE Silicone II available at most big box stores too. It's a much better value than any seam sealer for the amount you get.

Actually I cut into the box when it first shipped. I know, I know. I was distracted and not thinking. I have never used this tarp, and am going to sell it because I wasn't happy with the color. I ordered multicam replacements and returned 2 of the 3 undamaged tarps. BTW...I know.

That musta hurt...cutting the tarp while it was still in the box. Ouch!

I've got a tarp on the way. Good thing to know about the seam sealer brands.

It's not the brand, it is the type of sealer that is important. The Kenyon Seam Sealer 3 that the OP used is a urethane based product for use on urethane coated materials while a silicone based product has to be used on silicone coated materials (silnylon).

Thanks. I just learned something new. My WB SF should be here in a couple of weeks and I want to seal it before I head out on my backpacking trip.
