    UQ questions

Hello, Im just getting into hammock camping and have a few questions about hammock insulation.
First off, I was thinking about buying the Hennessy 4 season insulation system to use in the shoulder seasons, and then if I end up needing it, I would buy the hammock gear Incubator 20 to use in the winter. Do you think I should just invest in a UQ right away?

Also, in those shoulder seasons when maybe it doesn't get too cold at night, will I get too hot using a 20* UQ?

Last question, If it gets to be below 20*, could I use the Hennessy insulation system and the UQ at the same time to lower the temp rating?

    Thanks!

I won't address the Hennessy system as I'm not familiar with it (where's Billybob?) but you can easily vent an underquilt when it gets warm.

As to combining the two approaches, ask the Hennessy users if condensation would be a problem with the underquilt enclosed in the Hennessy system. I believe Hennessy uses a foam pad where it's not an issue.

Thanks! Another question, for low temps are 3/4 UQ a bad choice? How do they compare to full Uq?s

I have the hhss and use it as designed including the space blanket down into the mid 30sF.

Around 35F I will add in a down vest under the pad which will get me into the 20s ok.

I have successfully used a quilt in the hhss under cover with the pad in the teens and single digits F.

Received my HH Explorer UL as a Christmas gift and immediately took it outside and hung it up ( I live in CT). Tried using ccf pad, then a Big Agnes insulated pad then both together! Bought the HH four season kit and applied it for a much better fit and coverage but realized that it wasn't enough insulation underneath. I have had it out several times since and find it not quite right, meaning cold spots and bulk in my pack.

Just ordered my HG Incubator 20 full length on Monday. Delivery is Saturday...WOW! Just in time for my next trip.

I guess I am saying that I wish I had gone straight to the UQ. I hope that helps you in the decision making process.
