    First hammock trip.

    Adrian from tokyo here.

Took the hammock (exped combi scout) for the first time.

Hike was an easy trip, from a station, bus upto a cable car ( http://goo.gl/maps/b8C3Y) and a mountain top view. Mt Mitake.
, then a through hike across a range. Then bus/train home.

View from the top of the cable car,

The first peak was south west from the cable car, Mt Odake
    ( http://goo.gl/maps/KgIk9 )

Then a short trip north west to Mt Nokogiri
    ( http://goo.gl/maps/zEuyr )

After that the trip droped over a road and back up to the hills, and wsw to Gozenyama ( http://goo.gl/maps/FJ9QA )

Just after this is round about where I pitched camp.

Forest was so dense was difficult to find 2 trees with enough distance.

Got an awesome night's sleep, only to be woken up by a few monkeys boasting around my camp.

Dinner was mash potato with beans and tuna.

Wanted to make coffee from the hammock, but due to the ground level and my high hang, I couldn't reach.

I got more of the trail done than I expected ( according to the trail maps)
And day 2 was easy. Only about 3 hours to the end of the route. At Mt Mito ( http://goo.gl/maps/mvEOg )

This is a small wildlife reserve with a small visitors centre and vending machine at the end. That is always welcome.

Didn't take the bike this time as it was raining ( and still is).

Will post more trip reports as I get more use out of the hammock.

Watch out for some motorbike trips too.

I guess I won't complain about the frogs and other night chirps, at least they are not monkeys.

Well done Adrian....looking forward to future hanging trips around Japan.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

Pretty cool you can camp in those woods. I've had a black bear wander up next to my camp but I don't know if I'd rather that or monkeys. Thanks for sharing!

As I only had a walking pole to fight them off if anything happened, I would pick the monkeys. Doubt that would do much against a bear.

Japan has bear aswell tho. Especially the northern island. Not quiet the same, but almost as large as "grizzly" brown bears.

Nice report! It looks misty or foggy where you hanged. I guess you can't hang your food there with the monkeys. Do you do with it at night?

You know it. Here are a couple of staples of the food drink bag.

Didn't hang the food, just left in the my bag under the hammock. I don't think anyone does hang food in japan.

Interactions with wildlife in japan are very very rare and injuries are even rarer. Deer and bore of blind corners are a bit if a bugger when in the bike tho.

Look at three size of these things.

But I will consider hanging my food when I tour Hokkaido (the island with the big bears) later this summer. Might invest in some bear spray, too.

Thanks for post; have been to Gozenyama twice and both times the weather was like that. Planning another hike up there hopefully this month to scout some sites.
