Most Gear Boxes are made from a single piece of ripstop. A few are made with two pieces, taking advantage of the opportunity to use tails and reduce waste. The double stitched seam is always on the bottom. Anyway, that's the only variable in construction.

Well, I appreciate your order. If anything is not to your liking, just let me know!

A couple of people have indicated a concern about a two piece Gear Box, as if that were less desirable.

I wouldn't make them, if I thought two piece Gear Boxes were inferior. There is one aspect of them that is superior: they won't hold water.

A while ago, someone asked me to put a grosgrain loop on the bottom of their Gear Box. I realized that mod has the unintended benefit of draining the Gear Box, should it somehow end up with water inside. It doesn't leak in the rain with the top closed, because the stitches are on the bottom. It's a felled seam, so only the needle holes can drain water, not the seam itself.

So, whenever I end up with short pieces of silnylon at the end of a roll, I use them to make a Gear Box, rather than throw them away. One of them looks right sharp, with a Woodland Camo top and a black bottom.

However, I'm sure there are folks who would rather have a Gear Box made with one piece, which is fine with me. I just don't want anyone to think that a two piece Gear Box is inferior in any way, that's all!

Edit: The Woodland Camo Gear Box is sold!

Yesterday, I finally found a spool of parachute cord... about 3/16" flat nylon braid. I'm going to use it on Gear Boxes.

It had a 4' integrated ridgeline, and I will leave a 4' tail on each end. That way, you can hang it up right out of the box!

It will fit between trees that are less than 12' apart, unless you extend it.

No, it has nothing for a core. Just a flat braid, much smaller than paracord.
I call it parachute cord, but it may not be.

Want a few fathoms for your Gear Boxen?

All I did was tie a single line to each end of the gear box. Then on each line, I wrapped a prusik. On that prusik is an s-biner. Now grab that biner, wrap around the tree, and clip it onto itself. Simple and effective.
