    CF Ground Cloth/Welcome Mat

Made this sweet thing yesterday. It's 36x80" made of 1.0 ounce CF from Z-packs with 8 loops and weighs 2.5 ounces. It replaces one of Tyvek, 32x80" that weighed 5.2 ounces, and had polycro wind shields at head and foot.

All the edges are taped over 1/2 inch.

very nice looking! are the tie-out loops also made of the same CF? Do you use this under your hammock and also as an emergency go to ground option?

Nice bit of kit. I use tyvek myself and have been thinking of doing something similar with CF.

I have often wondered why the vendors do not offer a prefabbed welcome mat like that with stake points sewn in. I am pretty sure it would sell just like all the other things we dont NEED but that come in handy.

Looks too pretty for me to step on. Nice work, but you need to muss it up a bit.

I could never bring myself to step on cuben fiber, just out of principle.

Thanks! Yes, same material -- 1/2" wide with 6" looped at the corners and 4" on the long sides.

Yes, I'll use it just as you say.

Z-packs has them but I didn't make mine a bathtub.

I'm worried about it being slippery. Thanks.

Will keep my Tyvek one because it's darn good. Will have three very nice set ups when all's done it seems.

I've got several pieces of gear like that. There are some awesome materials and products out there, eh?

I've always heard that cuben's prone to puncture (but won't tear). Is that the case?
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

Doesn't seem any more prone to puncture but I think that depends on the thickness of the polyester laminates. This 1.0 weight is pretty substantial.

It does tear. Got a small tear once in my .74 ounce tarp but it repaired very easily.

Thing is the price -- you can buy a lot of Tyvek for what this cost.

There is one vendor that does offer a mat with stake loops. I saw it while searching for something else but I do not remember which vendor it was. I will try to find it again and post the link.
