    Long Trail in July

Hey folks, I'm a Texas hanger that will be in Vermont this summer. Planning a short, 4-night hike on the Long Trail.
Would love some input on things to know about camping up that way.

Temperature: Is it really 55 lows and 80 highs in july?? I will look like a fool carrying my "winter" setup when everyone else will be carrying light, but that is pretty chilly to us Texas folk.

We plan on doing a section of about 20 miles or so because we will have a young one with us and will be taking it slow. Probably sections 5-8 because they seem to be close to where we will be visiting. ANY info on trail access, where to leave cars, which piece of the trail has the best views, etc is greatly appreciated.

If you had to hike one section of the trail, which would it be?

    Thanks all!

Yes, it does get that cold. This past weekend I camped near the southern border of Vermont, and the low at night was 52f, add rain and wind to that and it feels a bit colder. My elevation wasn't very high, and if you're up higher it would be colder, specially if a storm came through.
Depends how cold/warm you sleep, I use my 20f UQ all 3 seasons, and manage my TQ according to weather.
    I'd rather be hanging.

On Mnt Wilson, behind Emily Proctor shelter, it got down to 44F Saturday night. Division 6 doesn't have much for elevation changes (20 miles) or vistas - Division 5 has a 2,500' climb to Killington and is nice but will be a challenge with a youngster, Division 7 is nice, challenging with a number of nice vistas. Check out this playlist from my YouTube channel - you will see much. I will have D7 and part of 8 up in a week. I hope this helps.

12TrySomething has 5 videos so far on his Long Trail thru hike. Check them out, they're entertaining and has a lot of good info.

    Dude! Long time no see.

I can attest to the hike up Killington would be a challenge with a youngster, but south of there from Claredon gorge heading south towards and past Minerva Hinchey Shelter (IIRC) is nice. There's a side trail south of the gorge that overlooks Rutland that's pretty cool. You can go a good distance without too many challenging changes of elevation.

Hope to see you sometime soon.

Sarge I hope to actually get to camp in TX sometime soon! Everything has been gearing up for all of the summer plans, church camps, speaking events, etc, so Vermont may be my only trip out into nature until the fall. I am looking forward to getting back out there with you guys as soon as the dust settles around here.

Just another comment on the temps. Spent the night in the hammock a couple nights ago in the Champlain Valley and it was 50 at 4 am. I'm sure it was colder at elevation.
