2" suspension rule in FL...Anyone heard of this?

I usually camp in the Florida, and I'm hearing there is a new state park ruling requiring 2 inch straps on trees for both Hammocks and Tarp suspension. Can anyone verify this, and if so would heading to Pull-A-Part and grabbing some seatbelts to use as straps be a workable idea?

I've never hung down in FL, but I believe that it has been on the books for a while. Dutch sells 2" webbing for that purpose.

I'm more of a DIY guy, and I am sure I could get a few seatbelts from Pull-A-Part cheap.

Yes that rule has been around for a couple of years at least. Prior to that, hammocks were banned altogether in most state parks. Seat belt material is heavy, but it would work just fine.

In post 67 there is a link to a spreadsheet. Looks like the last update was in 2013. I have also seen in a google or 2 that Florida appears to have different rules in each park.

This is news to me, I've been hanging for over a year in Florida and I just use 1" straps. I am not sure I am going to switch to 2" straps either. Then again, I don't usually camp in state parks.

If you do camp in a state park here, please do use 2" straps. Getting then to allow hammocks was a hard battle, and it would be a shame if they banned them again because people didn't follow the rule.

Yup, I can definitely appreciate that. Where is the rule published?

I wonder if a Foam pad under the strap will work instead of new straps. I have seen some who will slip like a 3 inch piece of blue pad under their straps.

Well it depends, are we talking about what protects trees in reality or are we talking about what regulating officials will accept. Two very different things. Either way, if you're looking for ideas on tree protection, you could probably borrow ideas from another community: https://www.reddit.com/r/Slackline/s...ree+protection
