•Hammock use and any other associated lines may be attached to trees that are minimum of 12 inches in diameter measured at chest height and using a minimum of 2 inch wide flat web straps. Some parks may provide hammock posts instead of trees.

Easy answer until Dutch comes out with his new 2 to one straps you can get 2 inch tree huggers from the Clark jungle hammock website and they are under ten bucks a pair,....,,,..or make your own like these.

Having to use 2" wide tree straps to hang your hammock in a Florida State Park is better than not being allowed to hang at all. Some folks on the forum put a lot work into getting the Florida State parks to allow hammock at all.

Been pondering this since I noticed a similar thread on the Dutchware forum. What I think would be good (maybe not perfect) would be this:

A 2" hugger (and I think being adjustable would be a big plus) ending in either a 1" loop or maybe even a captive descender ring. Just having a length of 1" webbing sewn on limits versatility. That end (loop or ring) could then have either webbing or Amsteel connected using a lark's head to complete the suspension, whatever the user chooses to do: webbing, Whoopie Sling, whatever. I think a 2" end loop would be way too clumsy to work with and I only thought of the ring because of that pesky requirement that the tarp lines have to use a 2" strap also and this might be a convenient way to have a single attachment point for both the suspension and tarp lines.

Just offering this as a starting point for building on. Wouldn't doubt that somebody's going to have an idea to improve upon it.

Sewed up a pair of 5' tree huggers yesterday made of 2" lightweight polypro from Strapworks. They weigh 3.5 ounces.

Want to get back to Florida some day. Olddog lives there.

I have hung a hammock a few times in Florida state parks over the past few years and never knew about this rule. Never had anything said to me by the park rangers or anyone else. Granted I also had a tent set up on site for my kids so they may not have noticed my hammock. Will have to get some 2" webbing and make some tree straps just for when i do camp at a state park.
Should be able to rig my tarp to my suspension like hh does. Any tips or hints for doing this would be appreciated.

This is the answer, except for the 2 inch you use 2 inch seat belt webbing.

I did a cross-country bicycle tour of FL in Feb '15, and never could get a great answer from anyone down there. There used to be a 'no hanging' rule, then revised to a 2-in. strap rule at state parks (although national parks down there have different, more generous rules depending on terrain). But I also found out that many state parks down there don't have those nice, fat desidiuous trees from which to hang, so enforcement of the rule and/or allowing hanging down there is subject to local jurisdiction. In other words, if you are at a state park, don't be surprised if the local rangers do not allow hammock-hanging due to local flora and usage.

I finally just gave up and brought a tarp tent, and it worked out great.

    hope this helps.

As a Floridian, my solution is to never hang in State Parks (the rule applies only there). The reason however, is not because there was a total ban on hammocks until recently, or that they now require 2" straps for both hammock & tarp. It's because I go into the woods to get away from the crazy yahoos in the city. Those same yahoos can be found in State Parks watching TV running off their generators and randomly shooting in the wee hours after consuming copious amounts of adult beverages.
