This year is shaping up to be the best year yet for this event! Last year we hosted over 80 hangers in the primitive area of Santee State Park and this year we expect to host more! Of course, there will once again be a gear raffle (because of course there would be) with fabulous prizes from Palmetto State Hangers' vendor sponsors as well as other event-specific sponsors that have generously agreed to donate goods and services for this event.
Funds from this year's raffle will be put towards SCPRT's Palmetto Campout, an event held annually at Sesquicentennial State Park and Huntington Beach State Park in which families can apply to participate in a weekend that will teach them the basics of camping and outdoorsmanship for $50 for the entire family. It's a FANTASTIC program that PSH has been honored to have been asked to help with for the past few years. I've only recently found out just how much it costs for the state park system to actually put these events on and it's getting harder and harder for them to find grands and sponsorships...but this is something WE can help with!
Last year we raised $1700 for the state park system. This year we're shooting to raise at least $2500, and I'm throwing in an incentive: Alongside member Squidbilly82 auctioning off his beard (winner of the auction gets to shave him) I'm also throwing my much-loved beard into the mix. If we raise the $2500 that we're aiming for, I'll shave my beard!
Furthermore, Member(s) of the year for 2014-2015 Hotlips and Kingsford will once again be in attendance and have agreed to cook a few meals (with attendees bringing ingredients so as not to overburden them) again this year. As of now, the meal plan is as follows:
Thursday Night: On your own
Friday Morning: Hotlips Meal!
Friday Lunch: On your own
Friday Evening: Hotlips Meal!
Saturday Morning: Pot Luck Breakfast
Saturday Lunch: On your own
Saturday Evening: Country's Chicken Bog with pot-luck sides/desserts
Sunday Morning: Leftovers/On your own
PSH will provide coffee for the event, and pot-luck breakfast will go until the vittles are GONE!
There will once again be a gear swap/flea market/yard sale type thing going on similar to last year, so keep that in mind if you've got more gear on hand than you can use and want to try to get a few bucks for.
Also, we're proud to announce Terrapin Outfitters will be joining us this year with their Lundy's Learning Center for the kids, where activities for basic outdoor skills such as fire-building, primitive shelter construction, and knot tying will be offered and prizes will be provided for the participants.
I'm almost 100% certain that there will be more added to the itinerary before all is said and done, so be sure to keep an eye either on this thread or on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/groups/palmettostatehangers) for details and updates as they come.
The following demos will be available (more to be added as needed):
Anodizing Titanium with Dream Hammock
Kids Clinic with Terrapin Outfitters
Ghost Stories and Other Lies with Tally "Pudden" Johnson
Amsteel Splicing with Jeff "Maytag" Hoffman
Dehydrated Meals with Stewart "Tech-Ninja" Armstrong
