    Greetings from Northern Ohio

Hello, all! I'm up near Lake Erie on the west side of Cleveland. In the midst of many life changes (divorce, career change, empty nest) I decided to go full-on "midlife crisis" - got a motorcycle (newbie rider!) and took myself on a road trip. The short version of that experience was that I wished I'd had my own sleeping setup with me so that I could change my location easily. While researching solo tent options that would fit on the bike, I learned about hammock camping and knew it was for me.

I tested an ENO Doublenest and didn't like it; after more research (including lots of reading on this site) decided on the Blackbird. First-time setup (without the fly) took maybe ten minutes to figure out and get right and climb in; I knew after two minutes that I was hooked.

I'll be testing my setup in a couple of weeks on Wellesley Island in NY; if all goes well, I hope to take myself on a few overnight trips in the area through the remainder of the summer.

    Happy hanging!

Welcome to the forums and I am sure you will enjoy that Blackbird hammock.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

    Welcome Ladylsis,

Sounds like you've got some good ideas about motorcycling touring and getting your kit together. Be sure to get up some pics of your NY trip. I'm nudging my friend in Parkersburg toward the hammock, she's been camping off of her sport touring bike for a couple season now, having just returned from the Fingerlakes. Actually she might be nudging me back in to motorcycling.

Anyway welcome and keep a look out for Ohio group hangs, often at Mohican or Zaleski.

    David

kc8ljm, you, too! My first trip will be in a state park very familiar to me and I'm pretty sure I'll find suitable trees there - but it's not in Ohio. :/

Bannerstone - will do! I have friend that rides an Enduro and who wants to be able to camp from it; pretty sure she wants to sleep on the ground, but she seems intrigued by the hammock concept.

Just ordered a few pieces from Dutchware to get my tarp set up. Hopefully it will get here with a couple of days to spare so that I can play before we head to NY.

Everyone is a newbie when they first get a motorcycle, the best cure is to get out and ride.
IMO riding a bike is the best way to explore the world around you.
Just go at your own pace and you will gain the experience as you go.

The 3 main problems with cars:
    They are too wide.
They have twice as many wheels as a vehicle should have.
They lean the wrong way in the corners.

This is what 4 wheels should look like:

I've got a LOT of this country to see, plenty to keep me busy for years - so much good scenery:

I am very new to hammock camping, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it (no pun intended, but a suitable pun nonetheless).
Like you I'll become familiar with it all as I try it out.

I'm sure that there is plenty to see where you are, plan out heaps of camping trips and have fun doing them!
Good luck with the motorbiking and with the camping.
