    If I knew that the chance of not being able to hang was because of a lack of tree, 's and was traveling by cycle I would give the handy hammock from UK a serious look. My understanding is that the initial set up can be a bit fidgety but once you find the right settings, it can be up in @ 5 min. or less which is not as fast as two trees but remember- you can set up your handy hammock stand anywhere, who needs trees? I like tree's btw- but definitely a lightweight alt.

    Instead of stakes try securing your guys to stuff sacks filled with sand and buried a foot or so down. Similar to what you can do in snow. We do this with those giant kites you see at the beach. These kites can have over 1,000# pull. In the end super light weight.
