A THANK YOU TO ALL HAMMOCK FORUMS FOLKS!

I'm happy to announce that I'm the proud owner of my first ever hammock and tarp. Tough decisions on what to get, but a thank you to all that gave me information and advice, and to HammockForums in general, where I learned (and continue to learn) a lot. Derek's book was also extremely helpful in navigating the maze of choices and how all the components work together, and of course, Shug's videos were invaluable as well as entertaining. A special thanks to Hutzelbein and Joe as well for their helpful suggestions.

I'm starting with a WBBB 1.1 DL and Edge Tarp. I say starting with since everyone tells me that one hammock just won't be enough ...

I also watched a YouTube and learned to spliced some cords for my tarp; also, outfitted with some Dutchware tarp worms.

Looking forward to many nights in my new hammock!

Congrats on your selection and taking the DIY plunge on your splicing. I have found both Hanging and DIY to be very addictive and rewarding. I hope you'll join the ODH folks at a group hang or maybe catch one of the many in the Carolinas.

I will have to say congratulations on getting the coveted "first hammock" to get you going. Then you threw in the dreaded "DIY" aspect of your post.

Now you went and done it. It's all over for your spare time. No such thing in DIY and MYOG. Next, you will be making stuff sacks for your cat and gear, tarps for your backpacks and fire pit. Hammocks as gifts for neighbors and family. Even rain kilts, foot booties and quilts.

I love MYOG, make your own gear, but, it is addictive. My father-in-law was surprised when my wife got me a sewing machine for Christmas and I acted like a little kid with excitement. Gear for all I say.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

You may be right. I love to make things, and I already own two sewing machines. I even spliced my cord with crochet hooks and a loop turner from my sewing box. I think this could be a slippery slope!

Hammocking with good equipment is like a drug. Tent camping / hiking doesn't even get close. Welcome to the madness!!
