Question Single end support using Kee Klamp system - HELP required!

    Hi,

I am looking to build a DIY support for one end of my hammock for use in my garden (tree is available for the other support).

I have been looking at building a complete stand (Pipe Stand Speer/Jacks) using Kee Klamp tubes and fittings but was wondering if something suitable could be made for a single end support.

Here are types of fitting that are available: http://www.simplifiedbuilding.com/st...kee-klamp.html

Interested to hear suggestions on potential designs.

I am located in the UK and would also be interested to learn of any other affordable single end support options available here.

    Thanks,

    Ed.

You should be able to just use the single socket T and the 90* elbow. Have a look at the link below for an idea.
You can definitely do more, but make sure it adds value.
    Good luck

Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same

That is the full stand, what are you suggesting for a single end support?

    Thanks.

Your tree is one side of the stand. Couldn't find a good pic, but this is close. Imagine on the far end of the stand, that it is connected directly to the climbing wall. You'll need to spend some time on how you connect it to the tree, but that's solvable. Have a look at some of the DIY tree house building sites, they should give you some ideas about using the tree for support without damaging it.

Thanks for the suggestion but if I am going that route I might as well build the full stand.

I am looking for a free standing solution using kee klamps (e.g. tripod type design).

The important points though are that it can be built using Kee Klamp fittings and tubes and that it is standalone.

The problem is that you need the horizontal support for these to keep the end from collapsing inwards. The turtle dog is another example of this. The horizontal support takes the horizontal stresses of tge loaded hammock, and transfers those stresses to the vertical supports.

There are other systems that use pretty massive guylines instead to keep the supports from falling in. Using KeeClamps or speed rail I think you're better off building the whole stand unfortunately.

Check out the handy hammock stand for a possible one side option. They're not cheap though, and dont seem like an easy diy system.

Just use a single pole guyed out to the ground in two places. You can make a tripod if you want to, but you'd still have to guy it out to the ground or use a ridge pole to the tree to keep it from tipping inward.

    See Bonsaihiker's one-tree set up:

    Options are-
-Plant a big pole (wood or metal) that is buried deep enough to take the strain.
-Build a tripod, monopod or bipod and stake it out with LARGE long stakes. Or anchor to the base nearby trees. Using non stretch rope like amsteel works best.
-A ridgepole (either wood or metal) to compensate for the inward forces of the loaded hammock.

Problem with Kee-clamps is they are not rated for support. They may work?? But without a specific rating, I'd recommend avoiding them. The bolts can slip or the clamp itself can crack.
Contact Kee and see if they agree that that should be used for human support before pursuing this idea further.

Pips suggestions are best. (she is so smart, ya know)

    Hi,

Thanks for the info - guess I hadn't fully thought through the way the support is loaded... maybe full stand is best way to go.

    Thanks again.

Thanks some good ideas, wondering how stable this system is. Would like to be able to take the hammock down when not in use and leave the support system in place ideally.
