Wow, I've never heard of something like this. I hope he is OK as well... I'd like to know more about the circumstances.... Very unusual....

My prayers go out to the young man for a speedy recovery.
This is not the first, nor the last bear attack. Things do happen out in the woods and just like in our cities. Our lives are a lot more fragile than we care to admit. I still feel much safer in the woods.

Wow. Its always hard to hear of an incident like that.
It seems like they took all proper precautions. I too am curious about the situation.

This is a highly unusual situation. I do not ever remember the Park Service closing down so many trails and campsites at one time. Praying that this young man will have a full and speedy recovery. Eager to hear if they discover some circumstance that contributed to this attack; a bear attacking like this is incredibly rare.

Man crazy to hear. I bet he had his food hung on a cable too. How could that happen?

Park officials say the father and son were on a backpacking trip in the Smokies. They say both were sleeping in hammocks about 10 feet apart and they properly stored their packs, equipment in food with aerial storage cables.
I guess the bear didn't get the memo that hanging food is supposed to protect you from bears.
