What weight Climashield for first underquilt?

I looking to make a Texas 4 season UQ. I am okay with only a 30 or 40 degree rating and supplementing it with a PLUQ and a pad when it gets really cold. I'm looking at the 3.6 and 5 Oz Clima shield. I am also thinking of using silnylon for the outside to help keep wind out. What are your guy's thoughts on this?
    Thanks

I used 5.0 Climashield for my Underwoobie and supplement it with a quilt made from a Snugpak Jungle Blanket. The 5.0 should get you down to 30*, the Snugpak has been used by several folks down to 37*, the combination should get you to the worst that Texas can throw at you.

I used 6oz CS like it is used in almost all AHE KAQs. But I had used the lighter 5oz CS too. I didn't get it. Now I make my TQ with 4oz CS because I have more options from the top to get it warmer. I won't use any pad in my hammock. And I will never go out when the temperature is frosty but I'm afraid about morning dew and air moisture. This is the reason why I didn't want to go with downs.

I wouldn't use silnylon for the outside (but perhaps for the stuff sack). All my fabrics I used are windproof but breathable. The inner liner is water resistant and the outer shell of the UQ even showerproof.

I also used the 5.0 apex for my first UQ with a twist. I started out to make a full UQ and changed to a three quarters and used the excess by tacking it to the middle.
Had it down to to 30 and it worked great.

I also used breathable and water resistant materials for the shells.

Yah, the sil outer should be a non-starter.

IMO, the best outer shell is Epsilon. The combination of breathe-ability, water resistance, and wind resistance makes for a fairly potent combination.

    And these days, its cheap.

This lot is for factory seconds that has a minor printer error on it that won't even be noticeable, and even comes cut in a good length for a full size UQ. At $7.00 is a heck of a deal:

I could not place an order in the US - RBTR, DIYGS or Dutch. UPS shimpents to Germany are imo too expensive and I have do pay 19% import duty on the final bill. Therefore I ordered all my fabrics in UK. Royal mail UK is much cheaper and I have to pay no import duties on shipments within the EU!

This is the quality of fabric I used for my shell. It was left in bottle green from my hammock project.

And this fabric I used for my inner liner of my UQ.

Exactly the same fabric I dark olive I will use for my TQ

(it is imo no bottle green - it is dark olive. The olive green which UK Fabrics Online sells too is a very light green. I know it because I have ordered color patterns of all technical outdoor nylon fabrics they sell first). I could have used this fabric also for my UQ but then I would have to less over for my TQ.

If I were you I would most likely buy Argon 90 from Dutch in a nice color combination:

If you have a double layer it's ok to keep the Clamashield raw. This is my Clamashield 4.9 ounce summer UQ 30X70 UnderQuilt made with two layers of 2.5 oz with reinforced grosgrain corners. Made for a double layer WarBonnet Bridge. Sourced at http://thru-hiker.com/materials/insulation.php. I'm on my second summer with this setup. Just leave the Clamashield inside the two layers of you hammock and there is no need for a covering. Just posted pic at https://www.hammockforums.net/galler...underquilt.jpg
