can we do a poll for times and places, I am good for just about anywhere but all of my friends happen to be getting married THIS summer. Now, its certainly not all about me but i think a poll would give everybody a chance to add there two cents.

    I could post the poll(s).

Might even do a lil scouting. If the monsoon season ever ends!! It has been a few years since I covered from Stute Springs to Lapham Peak or even just dayhiked the IAT in the KMSF-SU aka "South Kettles".

Great point. This post begs the obvious question: are the majority of hangers interested in a WI Group Hang in the South Kettles looking for a meet at a campsite, an out and back to a shelter or a "mini through hike" as described in the bold portion of the quoted post?? Maybe that should be the first poll.

Not my idea of a Group Hang if only one or two people do all the work. At the very least chime in and post thoughts, suggestions and encouragement.

Ok. Davesnowis stepped up as the OP and with the call for poll(s). Tumbleweed added a healthy dose of enthusiasm. I stepped up answering questions, asking for preferences and volunteering for the poll(s). Goobie covered availability of Shelter 3.

Who among you will step up for the next part? Who will call then post the available weekends for Shelter 1 and Shelter 2??

    Question

Here is the type of hanging poll for y'all:
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ip#post1471548

I encourage everyone who might come out, even if only for a few hours, to vote in this poll. Be interesting to see what most of us are looking for. That would help a lot with planning future group outings.

Well, we have set the general area where. Obviously no sense in setting a weekend only to find out the site we want is already reserved. That is more or less what happened to Shelter 3 on June 19-21 which is where things seemed to be trending in this thread. Snooze ya loose.

Once we know what type of camping the majority of us want we can then start looking at which site. Having the site we can then set the date. Therefore I will throw up a which weekend poll once we've settled on which site. Sound good?

So shelter 3 looked good to me from the maps posted earlier. I am liking the july 24-25 or following weekend because I am free of weddings and I am excited to do a hang! As I also enjoy hiking, hitting all three shelters is most appealing.

........after another call to reserve America, available dates are:

    7/31-8/1 #2 &#3, in that order (Fri shelter 2, Sat shelter 3)
    8/7-8/8 #1 & #3 According to the IAT mileage chart that's 18 miles http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/k...iatexcerpt.pdf
    8/21-8/22 #1 & #3 Again an18 mile hike
    8/28-8/29 All shelters available
    9/4-9/5 All shelters available

Shelter 2 &3 are basically car camping in my opinion, #2 being a short walk from the forest headquarters and #3 being very close to a county road, IIRC one could practically drive up to the shelter to unload. About a 20 minute drive between the two, so spotting cars should be no problem.

Shelter 1-3 would be a fairly long day, but I think the mileage could be cut down with a few well placed cars or some road hiking.

I was told that reservations can be made 6 months in advance. Maybe those interested could start coordinating free weekends to make the planning a bit easier.

Either weekend should work for me, with the 24-25 being the better of the two.

There are a couple dates in Sep where all 3 shelters are available for Fri & Sat, most likely Sun too. Make for a fun extended weekend of hiking!!

Crickets chirpin' on the polls and in this thread. Guess I'll go hike and hang out there solo as usual.
