    Three hammocks one tarp?

I am going camping this weekend with a friend that I have successfully converted hanging. Last year I put our two hammocks under one Warbonnet Superfly and it worked great. This year her 8 year old son will be joining us. Ideally I would like all three of us under the same tarp. Her son may get scared his first time in a hammock and I want us to have the whole "slumber party" feel and have us all close together. I do not have in the budget to buy a bigger tarp, so please don't suggest that. Has anyone successfully put three hammocks under a Superfly? Is it doable? If push comes to shove I can always put my friend and her son under the Superfly and myself under my own tarp, but that doesn't sound nearly as fun. Oh and bunk bed style is also a no, as the little guy is a bed wetter. Any suggestions?

This is how I would do it: Hang the tarp high and wide. Maybe use sticks to raise the sides (like porch mode), or use extra long guy lines. I'd use a smaller hammock for the kid, and "bunk bed" it under mom's hammock. I wouldn't expect you to have any problems. If you really can't bunk bed it, I think you'll have difficulty finding a place to hang 3 hammocks from 4 tree's, and width of the tarp will probably be an issue.

I'm guessing you wont be out if severe weather is expected, or have the ability to bug out if needed, so you should be fine.

You could always just buy a BIG, cheap poly tarp from walmart to use for this trip, and leave the Superfly home.

Seems difficult without bunk beds. HOWEVER, there are some smart people here that have probably done it before. Good luck!

I guess it depends on a few things. I have played around a bit with my different tarps. So much depends on the configuration of the trees. With my Noah 12x12 I tried to get it over 3 hammocks but we had to hang two of them bunk style. I guess it also depends on the purpose of hanging the tarp. Assuming you find trees where you can get the hammocks close to each other, the tarp could be configured to provide shade or keep the dew off you. But I think that both the privacy and the weather protection would be iffy. Maybe if you got lucky like this.

I'm always skeptical about two people under a Superfly, but three seems quite a stretch especially given that you can't do bunk style.

Of course, if the weather is good, then anything is possible.

I've hung two hammocks under one tarp on two trees. Just let the straps come out on each side of tree. But that needs big trees 2.5' or bigger diameter. If you have two big trees hang the two on each side and third in the middle but a higher. Best put the youngest in the high hammock so the adults can help them in and out.

It wasn't perfect if huge storms would have hit it wouldn't have worked. It kept us dry from dew and light sprinkles, so it was a success for this trip. All hammocks were attached to one tree and then to three separate trees on the other end. I hung the tarp in a triangle going around all four trees
