Crazy light sil from Noah Lamport Inc?

So we just got 15 yards of what was sold as navy blue silnylon from Noah Lamport Inc, and it seems crazy light. Comparing it against the sil in my OES tarp, this stuff is really thin. The description on the invoice calls it silcoat, so could the weight difference be between silicon coated and silicon impregnated nylon? Is this stuff gonna be sturdy enough to make a tarp? There is no weight listing on the invoice and we ordered over the phone.

It seems to pass the blowing air test, so we'll have to try a water dripping test soon.

So we rubber banded some material over the top
of a glass and filled it with water and there are no drips so far. It seems
waterproof at least. The only question is whether it will hold up as a tarp.

No idea, and no scale good enough to weigh it either. Plus, she already started cutting pieces off and making stuff

It just feels really thin and light. There was no rating given anywhere in the paperwork we got with it.

There are some different types of proprietary silicone coatings from various manufacturers. I've got two types at home that feel very very different in weight, but they actually weigh the same. One feels much thicker and is harder to see through than the other. Perhaps OES is using this silicone blend that feels thicker. I doubt it, but I don't have one to look at.

The good news is, whether it's designated "impregnated" or "silicone double coated" doesn't really matter, it's very unlikely that the actual process is much different. The coating can be completely silicone, or a type of blend, and again, doesn't really matter that much - it'll still be "waterproof".

It's actually the real thin feeling stuff that is the pure silicone coated and costs more.

the stuff that's sil/urethaner blend is usually 1.4/1.5oz, the pure sil is often 1.3. that's the only variation i've seen. i've heard of heavier sil, but not lighter.
