    Two Suspension Options at Once?

    Hey everyone,

Has anyone ever had two forms of suspension on their hammock at once? I currently have whoopie slings that are sometimes too long for a narrow hang. I'm thinking of adding a continuous loop in addition to having the whoopie sling, both running through my sewn channel. This way I can use the CL for short hangs and the whoopies all other times.

I suppose I could just larks head the whoopie to the CL whenever I need it, but it might be a pain to remember to have it with me each time.

    Has anyone done this?

If I understand it correctly, Whoopie Hooks would do that: http://www.dutchwaregear.com/whoopie-hook.html

I guess it would work similar to how you mentioned larks heading the whoopie sling to the continuous loop, but is easier to remove.

    Thanks Cricky.

Here is an awesome MS Paint version of what I'm thinking:

Both options stay attached to the hammock. Not great on weight but I only have car camping plans this summer.

I would say use a large continuous loop and a whoopie hook.

An 8" continuous loop is pretty small when larks headed onto a hammock, I'd prob want one double or triple that if I planned to hang from it.

I'm very curious about this same thing. Would love to hear from some who use this.
Summer plans include building a hammock stand, so the dual suspension could provide handy attachments with regular whoopies for typical tree hangs but are easily dropped when it goes in the stand.
I realize that Dutch makes awesome gear and his whoopie hooks would make this just as easy, but I like to see alternative ideas as well.

I use a 6" CL attached to my hammock. Then use a Dutch Speed Hook and about a 5' lead larksheaded to my 6' strap. This allows me to get into very short length setups if needed.

Yes, you could leave both attached to the hammock if you wish, but, look to see if you can use just the CL and attach the Whoopie Sljng from the strap to the CL when needed via Dutch bling or similar.

Also, you can make your own suspension connection and be famous.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I have a CL to a Whoopie with a Dutch Biner on my main hammock. Have used the CL to hang in a tight pitch. Did me right.

The way you have your picture drawn is the way I used to do it. I would not go much larger than 6" inches in diameter and larks head on the ends of the hammock. I eventually gave up the whoopies as I found the min hang distance thing and other factors too much of a nuisance. I got by for a couple years using that system, though, so it does work.

Continuous loops are nice to bring along when tree spacing is shorter than the minimum distance to use one or both whoopies. I don't think you need to have them permanently installed onto the hammock, just do a quick larks head if/when you need to use it, and leave the whoopie danglin'.

12" is usually plenty; plus cont loops also make great tree strap extenders for when your tree trunk is too large.

    Thanks everyone.

It makes sense to just bring along some CLs that can be larks headed on for when narrow hangs are needed.

Do they still sell Dutch biners that are rated for suspension use?
