I've used a larkshead to connect my CL to whoopies. Knot can get tight and take time and fingernails to undo.
I got Dutch Biners.

I have a tree strap w/ loops in each end. Larks head on a single line of Amsteel. Tie to a ring on hammock as described above. No min. hang distance from the tree and straps are easily extended when necessary.
I think the dislike of whoopies is mostly an Eastern US phenomenon where we have dense small trees. Maybe also if you are hiking with tent users, or you're picky about your spot.
I'm still kinda new to all of this, but I would think keeping a couple of amsteel dogbones of different lengths would work in those tightspots. Just larks head onto your CL and connect the opposite loop to your strap using your prefered method. Or, if you are good with splicing your own, you could add whoopie hooks on both ends for a quick connect.
I have both on my DIY tablecloth hammock. The CL larkshead on channel then Whoppie larkshead to that. If the whoopie is to long i just use the marlin spike to the CL never removing the whoopie from the CL it just hangs or i might wrap it and hang it ovet the strap to keep it off the ground. I have never had any trouble with this setup. Good luck.
I recently removed the whoopsie slings and replaced them with dogbones. My straps are long enough in most circumstances and if they are not, then I can larks head in the whoopsies.
I decided to go with continuous loops attached to the hammock then the Double Hammock Whoopie Hooks attached to a smaller whoopie sling (which is then attached to the tree huggers).
This allows me to use the CLs for short hangs and still have adjustability for greater distances as needed. Plus having the DHWH is nice whenever my fiancé and I need or want to double up.
