    Integrated Insulation Hammock Questions

I am wanting to create an integrated insulated hammock using climashield as the insulation.

Plan 1- sew the climashield to a bottom layer of ripstop then sew those 2 combined layers to the hammock body. Basically a double layer hammock with insulation sewn in-between.

Plan 2- sew the climashield to a bottom layer that is the same width as the hammock body. Sew that to the hammock body on the sides only and roll the lower ripstop over the climashield on the ends creating a channel to place shock cord that could act to vent the ends.

    Questions
1- how much wider should the bottom layer of ripstop be in order to accommadate for compression that will occur when you lay in the hammock body? Would you need more width if you used 1.0 ripstop vs 1.9? or nylon vs poly? Is there a way to test the stretch of the hammock?

2- thoughts on rather venting is needed. I live in PNW and I have never had need to vent my current under quilt.

3- should climashield be full width of hammock body or should it be less wide and angled for typical lay in the hammock?

Plan 1 would likely not work very well as the two layers of the hammock would compress the insulation too much.

It's a pain, but your best bet is to have someone lie in the hammock and attempt to measure the underside. The more measurements you take the more accurate (and more complicated) it will be. Remember that your measurements give you the size and shape of the bottom of the hammock, and the bottom of your insulation layer needs to be bigger than that. If you make it too big you'll have gaps, and that's bad, so pin it all around the edges (or just on the sides) and measure again to see how to trim it.

Thats my question # 1. How to adjust so it is not compressed.
