I picked up a Half-Wit and a set of Cinch Bugs from Dutch at Trail Days in Damascuss last weekend. Got to try them out the last night. Thumbs up!

How or what purpose do the side straps serve? Do they pull the hammock apart for less shoulder squeeze?

Here is mine at North South Lake in the Catskills. The mountains behind it are Kaaterskill high peak to the left and Round top Mountain to the right.
What I liked about the side straps is that they hold the hammock in place when its windy. It is a incredible comfortable hammock.
If you do not use the side pull outs, does the bugnetting droop down on you? Would it be too slack?
How bright is the red?
Just got the "shipped" email for my orange half wit. So glad I ordered all the packs of fabric samples ($1/each). I also have some brick red fabric for a project. It's subdued. Not fire engine red.
Do we know the origin and/or why it's called a Half Wit? What's a Full Wit?
I have 10' Dutch straps. Wanted to try the cinch bugs but only found them attached to camo straps. Aren't the cinch bugs available separately?
Sandy first off thanks for the watermellon. It is delicious.
I sew on the cinch bugs because the the function of the part is dependent on the size of the webbing. However I have new webbing that is coming out so that is black and works well with the bugs.
I have been wondering when someone would ask about the name. It is "half wit" and "half witout" a bugnet.
Peace Dutch
