update, decided to make my own whoopie slings. I am waiting on my amsteel to arrive and I will begin following the tutorials found on this site. I have an idea of a few mods, one being using a small keychain ring instead of a bead and attaching a mini S binder to the ring to hang gear...

UManiac rather than bead or mini S biner you can splice a short length of amsteel into amsteel just outside of bury-in the adjustable loop. This 1 or 2 inch section will be too thick to get pulled inside bury. You can still use mini S biner to hang gear and if it ever breaks, gets lost, or is removed then your whoopie sling can't be inadvertently pulled into its own bury.

I started out with the stock Hennessy Hammock. I replaced the original suspension because of the size and weight difference and ease of setup. Ive been very happy ever since. The stock Spectra cord ended up being useful to tie my snowshoes on my pack. Adjusting is easy without a lot of weight on your hammock once you get the knack of it. I just like playing with my gear too. The braided amsteel or dynema is fun to learn how to splice.

I just installed a new whoopie sling that I constructed myself and it was not too bad - one thing I would like to mention, make sure you use a quality fishing tool. I started with braided wire but it kept unraveling which frustrated me so I simply discarded the braided wire and went to Publix and asked for some floral wire which worked like a champ and was free!

    Ordered this amsteel rope: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/new-en...ne--P012357679

I used this tutorial to construct the whoopie sling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtJGTgpv4dc

I used this tutorial to install my new whoopie sling on my HH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyUgwyJd6IE

I used a clip from another my Everstryke-Match order from survival life instead of a bead which allows me to use the clip to hang gear and to clip to the HH containment bag to make sure that the first thing out of the bag is the whoopie sling (trying to attach without success)

Very happy with the results and I used the Whoopie Slings to put up my hammock in the back yard and I can not wait to use it on my next camp out

Because they are simple to hang and adjust, but mostly because when I finally looked at them, it was the coolest thing since sliced bread, IMO. Plus fun to make, and most of what everyone else said. I was happy with my knot tying skills, but was experiencing some jamming issues from time to time. It is not fun standing there prising a knot apart while Mosquitos have their fill. And straps are kinder to trees than my old climbing ropes were, add in the MSH, which is also fun, and it's a winner.
