    Tarp suggestions

    Hello Guys,
Just getting started in hammock camping and needed some of your expert suggestions for a tarp. I will be mostly camping in mid-spring to late fall. Would like the option of having doors to enclose the hammock if the weather turns nasty! What materials are the best for weight and water repellency? If this question has been answered before, please send me the link to that post! Being that tarps are the bigger expense in these setups, i would like to have tried and true suggestions from the people who use them!

    Thanks again!

The tarp is a highly personal choice, but you won't go wrong with the Warbonnet Superfly. It will handle any weather conditions and if you decide you don't like it, it will sell very quickly in the for sale thread for a minimal loss.

If you think you may want doors, my suggestion would be do go ahead and get a tarp with doors.

+1 for the Warbonnet Superfly. I am sure you will get tons of folks echoing the same.

There are other great vendors here with some equally qualified tarps. For a good water repellent and lite weight option, SilNylon is your best bet. It does have a stretch factor to it so I suggest self tensioning guy lines (there are many threads about how to do this as well as Shugs videos). You can also check out the SilPoly tarps. A tad heavier maybe but just as water resistant and much less stretch.

    Tarp suggestions

I started with a Kelty Noah 9 and upgraded to a OES MacCat Deluxe and have been really happy with it. I'm also a 3 season camper and usually just get out on weekends, so I haven't seen any extreme weather (would usually just cancel if it looked that bad). I did pick up a 2QZQ Grizz Beak that I only carry depending on the forecast and lets me close off one side. I like the setup because I don't have to mess with doors during typical fair weather camping.

Ha, a new listing in the for sale forum!

Seems like kind of an odd shape, I wonder how far you could fold those edges in as pseduo-doors. In that price range/material there is always the Hennessy Hex. Which is also 10.5oz lighter.

Well here is someone using that tarp on the Foothills trail.

This seems like a message fragment. What tarp did you get from Lowes? The Kijaro?
