A new (crazy?) idea in suspension!

Over the weekend I was hammock camping and as is my habit, I was tinkering with some things that had been rolling around in my head. I have never seen this before and I certainty am not recommending this but I would love to get everybody's feedback.

First I was curious if a lark's head could take the place of a Marlin Spike Hitch. I tried the Lark's Head on a cheap Wal **** carabiner. The LH was tied using the continuos loop on the end of my hammock. The adjustable end of my whoopie sling was placed over the LH. I tried it out and it held me fine. WS was easily adjustable seemed like it would be a viable method.

So of course I didn't stop there, I wondered if the cheap caribiner would hold with no hitch, just loop the WS under the caribiner and over the continious loop.

It also held me fine. Well.... I still wasn't done. I wondered how far could I take this idea. So I cut off about a 6 inch piece of webbing and doubled it over then folded it in half. I replaced the carabiner with the webbing... yep it held me too! I am 6'1" 250 lbs.

I certainty am not promoting this as a new way to hang but I like thinking about how things work and trying new ideas. Most good ideas have to start somewhere...( not necessarily saying this is a good idea but maybe it causes someone else to try something different ) I was just curious if anybody has seen anything like this or has any thoughts.
    Let the onslaught begin

I like your experimenting. Sure it would work but the issue I would have is you now have something extra to carry and potentially lose versus connecting the two pieces of amsteel with something like a Dutch biner or whoopie hook. I've done this kind of thing at home on my hammock stand but wouldn't do it in the woods because it's more convenient to use a Dutch binder.

I know. My main thing was the idea of using a wal **** carabiner as a toggle but using a larks head instead of the MSH. Seems like there could be an application for that somehow. Maybe a little easier to do a larks head than a MSH. It seems to work on the same principle. I also thought it would be cool to have a complete suspension with no metal parts at all I.E. the strap toggle. Maybe Dutch could do a titanium toggle But yeah, just experimenting and having fun in the woods.

Yeah, I did sit down very carefully I know it is not conventional but who knows, it might lead to the next big thing, or the next sore back side

Hmmm, very interesting! I'm sure your idea would work with a trail stick as well.

Klaussinator, I do think so. My origional idea was to see if a larks head would serve the same function as a MSH. It seems to me the principle is the same. Here is an example of a strap Larks Headed on a mini carabiner. Since this end of the strap has no loop, the larks head will have a "tag" end whick could be half hitched for for security if desired. Fixed eye of whoopie could be attached to hammock via larks head and adjustable end of whoopie goes over the caribiner larks head.

Haha, my fault entirely. I have been kinda all over the place in this post. I went through a lot of different scenarios clearly ( in my mind ). Making that clear when typing is a whole different matter.

Aren't you losing the adjustability (however small) that the MSH gives you?
