    Sewing Tips for HyperD 1.0?

I'm a near complete sewing newb. Just bought my first sewing machine (Brother 6000i) since using my mother's a few times as a kid.

Not having problems with thicker fabric (i.e. pillow cases) but lighter fabrics like HyperD seems to be bunching up on me and requires constant tension on the fabric behind the machine to prevent that. Using a walker foot seems to help but still ending up with a shortage of thread leaving a bunched up amount of fabric at the end of the run. I'm using a simple straight line sewing pattern, 2.5 length I think, tension set at 4.

Found a few tips online like using some tissue paper to ground it but that seems to be a pretty clunky method on an 11ft hammock.

    Any tips?

    Thank you much.

I would try setting stitch count at 3 and see if that makes a difference. Then maybe fine tune with a little less tension. Make small adjustments one at a time.

    Good Luck !

What kind of throat plate is on the machine? Can you adjust presser foot tension? Using a microtex needle or a universal?

Add some tension. I run mine between 5 and 6 on my singer. Mainly just play a bit and find the right settings for you.

I switched to the smaller needle recommend by the manual for thin fabrics. Put the tension at 3, stitch length at 2.5 and maintained tension on the fabric with two hands and I didn't experience any more bunching up. My first every DIY hammock is done.

It's a 12 footer that weighs in at 7oz. Fabric is sold by the yard and thought I'd play it say and keep it at 12 feet in case I screwed up one end. I've put a strip of grosgrain inside the end whipping to prevent knot slip off and the knot can be slid down to shorten the hammock depending on the tarp.

12 ft seems very comfortable and the HyperD holds my 216 body without any noticeable stretch.

Thanks for sharing blasko! I basically had the same issue with trying to sew this fabric on my moms old Kenmore machine but chalked it up to me not knowing what the heck I was doing. Way too many unlabeled adjustments on that thing and the old manual didn't really help too much either so I gave up for the time being. Did you pin the hem or use another method?

I just held it in place and used the guides on the machine. It was kind of rough in spots but since its the same color thread you can't really tell. Ordered a set of hem rolling feet. Tried one that was really neat but a bit too small (7mm) and hard to manage, but the set has 1/4, 1/2, and 1 inch I believe which should be super easy.
