Same thing happened to me. It's worth it.
I think the title of this thread qualifies as clickbait :P
My son and I backpacked for a week in the U.P. on the NCT the summer of 2014 and our 3rd night we ditched the tarps. At midnight it was pitch dark and silent and literally one rain drop woke me up. I immediately hustled out of my hammock and woke up my son and said "tarps on now!" and by the time we had the tarps up and got back in it was a down pour. Since then I always have the tarp setup in some configuration ready to deploy. The next day was a rainy, wet slog of 10 miles. I would have dreaded trying to dry soaked gear out that evening.

Gambled for 2 nights on MRT/NCT and had glorious luck. Even sold MichiganDave to go tarp less on the 2nd. And really, I wouldn't have been able to hang in such a cool spot with my 12ft. Tarp. image.jpg
OutandBack,
What tarps are used in those pics?
