How cool is it up there in summer? I've about had it with the heat down here in FL.

Well y'all, lately it's been highs in the 50s, lows in the 40s, +/- 10F, dry and sunny. This week supposed to hit the 70s for highs and get some rain. An unusually dry and cold Spring. So much for Global Warming!

In summer it will bounce from 70s to 80s, occassionally hitting the 90s. As with FL, being surrounded by water, it tends to be humid here in WI. I've been out West to CO, TX, etc. 90F with 20% humidity really is more comfortable than 70F with 90% humidity.

It's the best during summer when the cool of the evening arrives. Temp drops 10-20F, breeze usually picks up, trees start sighing... ah, relief!! Conifers have the best shade. Deciduous trees somehow seem to trap more heat and humidity under them than conifers. I think the air moves less. The Cedar swamps with their carpet of peat moss are particular favorites of mine. So peaceful, like a cathedral.

Come on up, it's a hoot!!

    Howdy y'all,

I put up a poll for which weekend to have this hang on. Here's the link:

Howdy y'all, back with a link to another poll. This poll will narrow down which type of camping my fellow hangers are most keen on doing at the 2015 WI Spring Hang. From there we can more easily propose specific locations.

I'm not able to make May as I'll be leaving that weekend for two weeks on Isle Royale.

I'd be down for the June or July dates.

Humidity sucks. I have a friend who freezes his butt off in 40-50 degree weather in FL but is fine in the teen degrees in Nebraska.

Vote your preferences for which weekend here:

Looks like the last weekend in May is the front runner so far...

So far the preference seems to be the last weekend in May and a backpacking site. If you're serious about going, get your votes in now.

Since there has been no discussion about sites other than Rex's suggestion so far, I'm grabbing the bull by the horns and throwing this out there. Boot Lake Campground has a huge parking lot and several backpacking campsites nearby. (Boot Lake is half way between where Hwy T heads north from Hwy 64 (in between Langlade (Hwy 55 & Hwy 64) and Mountain (Hwy 32/64 and Hwy W) and Townsend (Hwy T and Hwy 32) on Hwy T. Or if you imagine a line going northeast from Langlade to Townsend it is half way between them.) There are several hiking routes with backpacking campsites we can hang in that pass by numerous streams, lakes and ponds and can be hiked in a loop. This ticks all the boxes that have been discussed in this thread. Therefore I am suggesting the Boot Lake Campground as our origin point. If the majority vote for a campground, we'll hang in the campground and everyone can dayhike, go fishing, rafting or whatever as they please. If the majority vote for a combination backpacking/fishing/hanging trip, then I'll suggest some routes.
