    HH A-SYM Zip owners…

I’ve been hanging for about two years now. I've done the inflated pad, blue foam, reflective window shade, and have reached the point that an UQ is the next step. I’m a cold 3-season sleeper and know a full length UQ will be required. I’ve read so much here on the HF, that my mind has collapsed in to a pile of whoopie slings and suspension straps with toggles swirling about.

So I’m turning to the HF populous for feedback on an under quilt that works best with the HH ASYM Zip. I know there are multiple threads related to UQs, but this is a specific discussion for HH A-Sym Zip owners. So…let me know what you think and why.

If this specific discussion has already been had, please let me know (provide the link) and I will remove this thread.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Really any UQ that works with a gathered end hammock will work. There's the KAQ Potomac which is made specifically for the Hennessy Hammock line as it's cut to fit the shape of the HH and there's a small piece of exposed shock cord which runs over the tie out points to help keep the UQ in place when you're moving around in the hammock. The next step up in price would be any of the down UQs from the various vendors here.

I just spent the money on an under quilt, as far as "BEST" I can only report on the one I purchased. The Hammock Gear Incubator 0 dF. I was very pleased with the fit during the early spring hangs. The lowest temps was 15dF and I was too hot. There appeared to be a lot of adjustment options to get it right for your sleep. Good luck in your search.

We use JacksRBetter Economic Quilts. That way they can be used as underquilts or topquilts. We have 2 of each of the shenandoahs, Hudson rivers and old rag mountains. The whole family had HH Asym Zips at one time. Now I use the Ridgerunner and have a Lynx. But I still use one of the above as my topquilt.

Since you have the zip model, any quilt that will work with a gathered end hammock will work with your HH. My personal preference is for Jacks R Better. I have The Nest (I have the bottom opening) along with 2 Old Rags. But, honestly, you can't really go wrong with any of the vendors here on HF.

What you need to decide is what temp rating you want. There again it is a personal choice. I am a fairly cold sleeper and have found in the colder winter months in VA I really prefer the Old Rag top and bottom. The rest of the year I pretty much use The Nest until we hit July/August and knowing you are local you understand our heat/humidity. July/August is time for my PLUQ or I really vent The Nest and am prepared to tighten it up a bit around 3 or 4 AM.

I have had issues with JRB UQ mainly because i believe the suspension system needs upgrades. I have tried the Graylock 3 and the Mount Washington 3 the MW i found an air gap in the area to the left of my feet which i believe was cooling my butt. I also got CBS from the Graylock. I have since got a incubator 0° with no issues.

I had an HH Expedition Asym Zip. As soon as I got an UQ, I stopped using the hammock tie-outs. Never could get rid of the gaps with the tie-outs in use.

I couldn't get them to work with or without the tie outs. The JRB quilts are designed for the HH tie outs hence the tab locations on the side.

Appreciate your feedback in that you are a NoVA hanger and as you stated, understand the conditions.
