Noah's tarp vs. Yukon Outfitters tarp - direct comparison

I had a chance to do my first hang this year on Saturday night: 30 degrees and toasty even in a hastily setup stand in the back yard. I had family over for a weekend campout to help me cleaning out my mother's house. I wooted the Yukon Outfitters Tarp and it came on Friday when I didn't have a chance to play with it, but this morning I'm free for a couple of minutes. Here is a direct comparison of the Kelty Noah 9 with the new YO tarp. The Noah 9 measures 14 foot ridgeline and I am fine with it in decent weather (used it Saturday night) over my hammock, which is almost 13' hang. I have other hammocks and tarps (can't have too many), many homemade, but this is my first look at the YO tarp. It's about 14" shorter each side of the Kelty ridgeline, and way longer on the side tie-outs. So you'll save a bit on weight if you have a shorter hammock, but you'll give a little on protection.

What is the method for using the guy lines that come with the yukon? I'm confused on how to use the tensioners when connecting to the tree..

I don't generally use the stuff that comes with the tents and tarps. I make my own guylines and use knots to secure things. Here's a video that shows how the ones that come with the tarp would be used:

I also use a ridgeline from tree to tree and lay the tarp over that, then secure the ends of the tarp to the line using a prusik loop.

Got my YO tarp the other day as well. My first tarp so I'm learning as I go. Looks to be decent coverage for my ENO double but haven't had the chance to get it all rigged up. Also read that is was difficult to impossible to get it back in it's sack using the stuff method. Well I managed to stuff it but it's definitely not quick or easy.

I have always rolled tarps and tents for storage. Stuffing is for sleeping bags (rolling can rip the baffles). You can also consider making or buying skins to fit the tarp, then you just roll the tarp over the hanging line and slide the skins on.

I've used the Yukon tarp on several trips and my son used his this past weekend during a fairly bad storm. We have the Yukon double hammocks so the tarp is plenty long enough to cover those. It is a diamond so coverage is "minimalist". I've used it in rain and stayed dry, pitching it low with the sides just inches from the ground. We had a big storm blow through this weekend and though he stayed dry, the wind noise was too much for him, so he bailed to the tent. It was his first night in a hammock during bad weather. That said, I'm considering bigger tarps.

We've both been able to stuff the tarp in the bag it comes with. I use an adjustable ridgeline for mine, he ties knots using the standard ropes. The plastic tensioners got tossed.

I have this tarp also. Great fair weather tarp, and will do in a pinch if you get surprised by bad weather. Did this modification on mine to add extra strength.
