    I registered in 2012

I know I registered in this forum back in 2012 when I started research about hammocks. I bought a hammock and tarp, but didn't do much with them, I just didn't trust the whole system and I had my tent system working real well. I started to use my hammock to take afternoon naps during my hikes but still needed to do some work on my tarp and other gear. Everything was going pretty well until mid-December when I unceremoniously found myself in a hospital with inexplicable excruciating pain. The nice doctors told me that bad things were happening and I had to have a very invasive surgery right away to remove a few of my organs, and there would be very long painful recovery. It's not like I had a choice. I found myself in a hospital bed looking at the ceiling, there was not much I could do. So I decided that I could mentally build a better hammock system than what I had. I had a long time to think about it. After a couple of months in my bed I was able to move around some and start tinkering. Just about everything I mentally designed turned out pretty well and I have been re-entering the world of backpacking, although my surgeon thinks I have a loose screw. There is still much work to do but I'm getting there. My objective is to be able to place all my gear into a large day pack with nothing on the outside so that Nosey Nellies can't figure out what I'm doing, yet still be comfortable in the woods. I'm pretty much there although I could lose a few more ounces of gear if I try a little harder.

I've been told I have a lot of loose screws over the years. But if your not doing what you love to do, there is not much joy in living that way. The more I get told I can't do something or I'm crazy for doing it. The more I want to prove them all wrong.

as you get back out there more and more, you'll start realizing one by one the things you'd rather do without or never use. Enjoy the stuff you got, there's always later to put it away.

I've been forced to readjust to life with much less abilities then I used to have. Give it your best shot. My first time out was kind of a bust but I'm still trying. Healing can take a long time. Good luck, welcome back!
