    Dynaglide...Tell me about it

I wasn't sure which part of the forums this post belonged in, so I'll put it here. If it needs moved mods, without a doubt please move it to the correct location. Okay, so I am going to be placing an order for some stuff soon and have never laid my hands on dynaglide. What is this rope like and what are people using it for most often? I know that it is sometimes used for hammock suspensions, but this is not what I would use it for. How is it for bear bags, guy lines, CRL's, etc? Does this rope have good knot holding capabilities? Will it hold a taut-line hitch well or would it slip on this rope? Please, just give me some general info on this rope and its pros and cons.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Jifigz

It's manufactured as an arborist throw line so it works great for bear bags and such. It's way overkill for guylines and any tarp rigging but some do. It is hollow braid and made to be spliced and works very well in that manor but it is coated with a pretty heavy polyurethane coating so it's a little stiff and slick so knots are not great with it. Taut line hitch might hold after it breaks in and the coating wears a little but still better to look at splicing rather than knots with it.

I use it for hammock suspension in my UL kit. Simple knots do slip. If they are backed up they hold but then don't come loose easily. The polyurethane coating sticks pretty tight.

Yesterday I retired my speed anchors because they were tearing up the Dynaglide.

I used instead an overhand knot with a bite, jammed the bite with a trail stick, and then cinched the stick.

If I used a smooth spike then it would slide out and it would all be good.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like this is not any rope that I need to own. I do need to find a bear bag line which is suitable. I've been using 550 cord for years as my bear bag line and it works just fine, but I should really find something lighter weight than 550 cord for bear bagging.

While I am a gram counter, I am careful not to go too skinny on bear bag lines. I also pay attention to the coating; the slicker, the better. Look for something between 2-3 mm with a slick coating. Some are designed to flatten out as they pass over a limb. I would search the small cottage outfitters for something they specifically recommend as bear bag line.

The trees in the forest are my friend as they are supporting me in my slumber. The last thing I want to do is saw cuts into limbs with skinny, abrasive lines to save a few grams.
